Handmade Garments

I have my own clothing label, flugvél. The label focuses solely on using recycled fabrics - curtains, tablecloths, remnants... I sew clothing that I feel young girls will feel comfortable in wearing. My favourite garments to sew are cloaks. I design all my pattern myself and use my sewing machine and overlocker and bare hands to sew all of the garments. My garments have been available at Peach & Lola (local vintage store.), The Cotters Markets (weekly local craft & fruit market) and most lovingly at Cereal Box, the local artist run initiative gallery I ran alongside friends on Flinders Street. Cereal Box was the place I regained my deep love for sewing, I would spend all my days in the gallery until nightfall with discoveries from charity stores, designing and sewing and pouring my heart into the beautiful art form.

I got a grant from the local government with a friend Tania and we held sewing workshops there and were able to pay a lovely Polish Seamstress named Anna to teach young budding seamstresses of the town to design and sew. We then held a very personal Fashion Show event in collaboration with 70 youths of Townsville, a lovely night of all different art forms.

Here are a few of my garments on my beautiful petite best friend and sister, Steph Hay. (using 35mm film)
